Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive
Architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s new home for the University of California’s Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) combines an old Art Deco printing plant from 1939 and a shiny metal-clad extension. So in keeping with this style we chose a cool and futuristic look: bold blocks of steel lettering across the top of the archive, the names of study centers and theaters glazed onto glass walls inside, and animated patterns illuminated with LEDs in thin sheets of glass outside.
