California Design 1930-1965: “Living in a Modern Way”

Already in its 3rd printing, this catalog sold 750 copies in the first three weeks of the exhibition, LACMA had ordered 1,500 for the 6 month span of the show! It’s their best selling catalogue in the last 20 years. We spent 6 months working on the book, 360 pages with a 40 page check list printed on pink paper (a “Gazzetta Dello Sport” influence, love it!). Ten wonderful essays by curators Wendy Kaplan and Bobbye Tigerman, and Bill Stern, Pat Kirkham and others. Work by the Eames (of course), Neutra, Kem Weber, Paul László, Rudi Gernreich, Gregory Ain, Frank Lloyd Wright, Gilbert Adrian, Jack Stauffacher, Alvin Lustig, the list is endless. The show is a “must see” the book a “must have”.

“The book’s unfettered design and close coupling of image to text contribute to the overall quality of the book, whether closely read or informally browsed.” Publishers Weekly
